Here in Portland, Oregon fear and uncertainty has confused and even paralyzed many many people in the Design industry --from contractors and developers to architects and interior designers. Every coffee house meeting, goodbye gathering, and simple encounters with old friends on the street allude to this pressing fear and uncertainty in the industry.
However, I have noticed that their are also those who just keep going, and I choose to be in this group. Although I sometimes feel the fear and uncertainty, I choose to remain optimistic about the future of interior design. You know, as I do, that what makes leaders are the hard times, not the days of plentiful work and design opportunity. I hope my passion for good design is contagious to others because passion and good design might be what get us out of this mess.
